London Buses route 183

London Buses route 183 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Pinner and Golders Green station, it is operated by London Sovereign.
==History==
Route 183 commenced operating on 3 October 1934, running from Northwood Garage to Golders Green station via Pinner, North Harrow, Kenton, Kingsbury and Brent Green,〔(London Transport Central Area Route 180–183 )〕 operating from Hendon garage, using Leyland Titan STDs which were in turn replaced in 1953 by the AEC Regent III RTs. This route was still much the same in 1952. LT-type buses allocated to Harrow Weald garage were used on route 183 between Golders Green and Pinner. In April 1937, STD-type buses first went into service on route 183.〔
The AEC Regent III RTs were replaced by Daimler Fleetlines in 1975 which gave way to MCW Metrobuses in 1980. It also swapped with route 83 in the Hendon area running via The Bell instead of Hendon Central station.〔(Route 183 ) ''londonbusroutes.net''〕
Hendon garage was closed in 1987 and the allocation was transferred to Metroline's Harrow Weald garage) and the Daimler Fleetlines returned and some single decks entered service. Route 183 was extended from Northwood station to Harrow Weald for garage journeys, but was withdrawn between Pinner and Northwood on November 1987.
Upon bring re-tendered, the route passed to London Sovereign with a new contract commencing in September 1999, with single deck Plaxton Pointer bodied Dennis Dart SLFs. However overcrowding resulted, and in 2001 it reverted to double deck operation with Plaxton President bodied Volvo B7TLs.〔
In 2008, the route was the subject to persistent theft. Gangs of pickpockets targeted old people, slashing their bags and stealing their money, keys and other possessions.
Upon bring re-tendered, the route was retained by London Sovereign with a new contract commencing on 5 September 2009 with new Scania OmniCitys.〔(Bus tender results | Transport for London – February 2009 )〕 The Monday to Saturday daytime frequency was increased to every 10 minutes and the PVR was increased.〔 On 18 January 2014, the frequency was increased again, by 25 per cent.
